Gran Villa Palmera was a summer project for Berlin-based photographer Bernd Rathjen. Graphix Island helped him brand his villa, located in the town of Los Llanos de Aridane on La Palma, which serves as his retreat from the cold winter months.
It is intended to work both as holiday accommodation and as an art gallery, since Bernd Rathjen owns a private art collection.

A quiet retreat close to the lively town of Los Llanos – centrally located for all the main destinations, including the black sand beaches of the west coast.
This is where Gran Villa Palmera sits, framed by tall palms, mature trees and a sprawling garden. It offers complete privacy and a rural feel while staying just steps from the centre of Los Llanos.
It is just a 15-minute walk to the beautifully situated Gran Plaza, with its old church and its many cafes and shops. The villa looks directly onto the extinct volcano and the lava field that stretches all the way to the Atlantic. The elegant colonial-style villa was originally built on this site in the 1980s as „Villa Los Pedregales“ by an art-loving Palmero, and has now been fully modernised.
Extensively renovated in 2021/22, the villa resembles an old colonial building and is designed on a generous scale.
It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fireplace room, a lounge/study and an open kitchen with a dining area. The impressively high ceilings – 380cm, and 520cm in the hallway – give the rooms a grand, stately feel.
The warm herringbone parquet is set off by an extensive photo gallery and a collection of contemporary art. The interiors strike a confident balance between design classics and traditional Palmero elements, while the villa itself is fitted to the highest technical standard.
